The Lions motto is "WE SERVE" . As a service organization, we survive on the efforts of the club members who volunteer their time and skills helping with fundraising and service projects. Listed below are activities in which club members participate to serve the community, the nation, and the world in which we live. Specific dollar amounts allocated for these and other club projects are identified in another area of this website and may vary from year to year.
1. Highway cleanup: Each Spring and Fall club members remove trash from the Highway right-of-way. Our area of responsibility begins at the West end of Ironton and ends at the Deerwood shortcut, a distances of two miles.
2. 26 Club Raffle: This fundraiser consists of 26 drawings for cash prizes of $50, $200, or $500. Tickets cost $26 and each ticket is eligible for each of the 26 drawings. Tickets are sold during the month of November with the drawing generally held the first Friday in December.
3. Christmas Adopt-a-Family: Working with the C-I Schools Social Director, 2-3 families are identified. Club members shop for and wrap suggested gift items which are then given to family members along with gift cards for groceries and gas. Recipients are unknown to the club.
4. Club Christmas Party: This is a social event held at a local restaurant. It replaces the December club meeting.
5. Bowling for the Blind: This fundraiser consists of area elementary school children bowling at our expense to raise money by securing pledges from family and friends. Prizes for best scores and highest dollar amount in pledges are awarded at a free Pizza/Swimming party hosted by the club.
6. Scholarships: The club awards two (2) scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors from C-I High School.
7. Summer Raffle: Tickets are sold by club members during the months of May and June. Tickets sell for $1.00 each. A variety of prizes could include golf, gasoline gift card, dinner at a local eatery, and a grocery gift card.
8. July 3rd Food Stand: This fundraiser is held on the street at the Spaulding Bar in Crosby. Hamburgers, Brats, and Italian Sausage is served with Baked Beans, Potato Salad, and Bars prior to the evening street dance held a the same location.
9. Deerwood Summerfest: The club has a food booth at the annual Deerwood Summerfest celebration. Hamburger, Brats, and Italian Sausages along with beverages are sold. The club also sponsors a kids Tractor Pull Contest during Summerfest in partnership with Deerwood Civic and Commerce.
10. Crosby Heritage Days: The club has a food booth at the annual Crosby celebration usually held in the Crosby City Park the 3rd weekend in August. The club also sponsors an Antique Car Show during this event.
11. Colorado Peach Sales: Orders for Peaches and Pears are taken throughout July and August for fruit delivered mid to late August.
Profits from all fundraising activities MUST be returned to the public through donations to designated initiatives supported by Lions International, to local programs requesting assistance, or to individuals in need.
Club expenses come from an Administrative Fund made up of dues money or other internal club member activities.
