Each month 120 CRES students receive a food pack to take home to be used as a supplemental food source. Ms. Bundy informed the club members that of approximately 600 CRES students, a disproportionate number of students suffer because of inadequate meals in the home. Hence, the Backpack Program funding provided by entities like the Cuyuna Range Lions Club meets a very real need in the community. Ms. Bundy thanked the club for their support and invites other community organizations to become involved in the program.

Mid-Winter Convention Report From Ed and Jan Anderson
Below are some of the highlights from the 5M9 mid-winter convention held Jan. 8-10:
· Regarding membership, our district is now even with last year thanks to the 25 added with the new club at Malmo and the induction of 2 members during the convention. We need to keep working on the growth goals.
· Lions Centennial International Convention will be held this summer in Chicago. Members are urged to attend with it so close.
· The 2017 5M9 convention will be hosted by the Baxter and Pillager clubs Jan. 6-8, 2017 at Cragun's.
· It was great to have 7 members of the recently formed Brainerd Leos club attend and participate throughout the convention. They have had a very active first year in existence.
· Due to unusual circumstances, there was no election for an International Director this past year. Lion Bruce Beck, from our zone, is still a candidate for election this year. He would be the first ever ID from our district.
· The spring college of leadership will be held on May 15 in Wadena. It is open to officers as well as to general club members. Consider attending.
· Small group sessions this year were set up to be open dialogues about club issues rather than formal presentations. It was an interesting and helpful format. At the session on web site development the comment was made, "If you need inspiration on site development, see the Cuyuna Range club's new web page." Great work, Jim!!
· The traveling trophy for attendance was awarded to the Verndale club with 42% of their membership attending. Should we try for it in the future?
· Our club received an award for our donation level ($300) to Project New Hope. It will be added to our banner at the January meeting.
· Jan accepted "Unsung Hero Award" certificates for 2 of our club members. The recipients will be announced at our January meeting.
All in all it was a good convention with lots of information and lots of fun. Here's an example of something fun we learned: What kind of computer sings the best? Answer: A Dell!!

Annual Christmas Party 2015
The Cuyuna Range Lions Club recently delivered three large bags of gifts for women and children currently supported by the Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center in Brainerd.
At the Cuyuna Range Lions Club annual member Christmas Party, gifts for women and children were received from club members to support this appeal. Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center meets the needs of women and children who have fled their homes due to domestic abuse and violence. Cuyuna Range Lions Club has responded to the Women’s Center appeal for assistance to provide some degree of holiday spirit to those folks currently supported by the program. |
In the spirit of Christmas as well as in keeping with the Lions pledge to return all monies earned through fundraising efforts to the community, Cuyuna Range Lions is pleased to announce a Christmas grant to the community. Three area families that may not have a Christmas this year have been selected as recipients of the grant.
$2,000.00 has been designated by Cuyuna Range Lions Club for the Christmas Family Project this year. Cuyuna Range Lions cooperates with social agencies that are aware of families that may not be able to experience a traditional Christmas of gift giving and gift receiving.
In addition to receiving gifts for family members, Gift Cards from Super One, Subway, and Dairy Queen are also given as well as a Gas Card.
Cuyuna Range Lions Club is not aware of the recipients of the grant, which makes the notion of gift giving even more meaningful. How wonderful it is to be able to give and not know the beneficiary of the gift. Just knowing that somewhere in our community a small child will be experiencing Christmas in all its fullest completes the joy of giving for the members of Cuyuna Range Lions Club.
